Cummins Match-Winning Spells on Debut and Return

Cummins picked up his maiden five-wicket haul in his debut Test match. He returned with 6 for 79 against South Africa in the second innings of the 2011 Johannesburg Test.

Cummins’ figures of 6 for 79 are the fifth-best for Australia in an away Test on debut.

The right-arm pacer had to wait for more than six years to claim his second Test five-for. Notably, it came against the same opponent and at the same venue as his maiden five-for.

Cummins is the only Australian bowler to take two five-wicket hauls at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg in Tests.


Cummins Best Innings Figures and Subcontinent Milestones

He picked up his first five-for at home against India in the 2018 Melbourne Test. He had figures of 6 for 27 in the third innings of the match.

His next five-for is his best innings figures in Tests. He claimed six wickets for 23 runs against Sri Lanka in the second innings of the 2019 Brisbane Test.

Cummins’ figures from the first innings of 4 for 39 also gave him his best Test match haul of 10 for 62.

In March 2022, he claimed his first five-for in Asia. He took 5 for 56 against Pakistan in the second innings of the Lahore Test.


Cummins Ashes, WTC Finals and Ground Records

Cummins picked his first five-wicket haul of the Ashes in 2021. He dismissed five England batters for 38 runs in the first innings of the Brisbane Test.

Cummins’ 6 for 28 against South Africa at Lord’s in 2025 are the best bowling figures by a bowler in the World Test Championship final.

Cummins is one of the six bowlers to take four or more five-wicket hauls at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.

He is also one of the five bowlers to bag three or more five-fors at the Brisbane Cricket Ground in Australia.

Cummins has picked up the joint sixth-most five-wicket hauls for Australia at home in Tests.


Cummins Opponent-Specific Test Five-Fors

The right-arm pacer recorded his first instance of taking two five-fors in the same Test. He picked up 5 for 48 and 5 for 49 against Pakistan in the 2023 Melbourne Test.

Cummins has claimed the third-most five-wicket hauls for Australia against Pakistan in Tests.

He has also picked up the fourth-most five-fors for Australia against South Africa in Tests.
