Even after playing on all five days, neither team goes home with an outright win. And that results in a drawn Test.

All-Time Team Records and Venue Milestones

England are the only team to draw more than 300 matches in Test cricket.

England and Australia played the first-ever drawn Test back in 1881-82 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

England are the only team to have played more than 50 drawn Tests at a single venue, having done so at Lord’s Cricket Ground.

The Englishmen are also the only team to draw 30-plus Tests each at three venues. The Oval and Manchester are the other two venues.

England, India and the West Indies have drawn more than 100 matches on home soil in Tests.

England, Australia and India have managed more than 100 draws in away Tests.

England are the only team to have drawn more than 50 Tests against multiple opponents, having done so against Australia, South Africa, the West Indies and India.

Calendar Year Records and Longest Streaks

India have played the most drawn Tests in a calendar year. They drew 12 of their 17 Tests in 1979.

India are also the only team to play 10 or more drawn Tests in a year three times, with 1983 (11) and 1997 (10) being the other two instances.

The West Indies have recorded the longest streak of drawn Tests. They drew 10 Tests in a row from 1971 to 1973.

South Africa, meanwhile, have played the most consecutive matches without a draw in Tests. They either won or lost in 46 Tests between July 2017 and December 2022.

Individual Captain and Player Milestones

Allan Border has featured in the most drawn Tests as a captain. Under his leadership, Australia drew 38 of 93 Tests.

Kapil Dev has played in the most drawn Tests as an individual player. He was part of India’s 75 drawn Tests in his 131-match career.
