Key Insights on Active Fielding Leaders in ODIs

Most Catches and Highest Catching Efficiency in ODIs

Virat Kohli has taken the most catches among active fielders in ODIs.

Kohli has, in fact, grabbed the second-most catches in ODIs, trailing Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene (218).

Kohli has the fourth-highest catches per innings ratio in ODIs behind Ross Taylor, Faf du Plessis and Paul Collingwood (minimum 70 catches).

Record-Breaking Catches in a Single ODI Innings

In May 2025, England’s Harry Brook became just the second fielder to pouch five catches in an ODI innings. He did so against the West Indies in the Birmingham ODI to go level with Jonty Rhodes’ 1993 record.

Most Home and Overseas ODI Catches

Kohli and Joe Root are the only two active fielders who’ve grabbed more than 50 catches at home in ODIs.

Kohli and Rohit Sharma are the two non-keeper fielders with 50-plus catches among active players in overseas ODIs.

Series and Single Calendar Year Fielding Records

Marnus Labuschagne (vs ENG, 2024), Harry Brook (WI vs 2025) and Cameron Green (SA vs 2025) picked up eight catches each in a bilateral series, the joint-most among active fielders.

Shubman Gill claimed 24 catches across 28 innings in 2023, the joint second-most catches by a fielder in a calendar year in ODIs.
