Record-Breaking Team Defeats and High Scores in CPL
Jamaica Tallawahs have scored the highest first-innings total in a losing cause in the CPL. They failed to defend 241 for 4 against Saint Kitts and Nevis Patriots in 2019.
The Patriots’ successful run chase of 242 is the highest by any team in the CPL.
The Tallawahs’ 241 for 4 had 21 sixes, the second-most by a team in the first innings in the CPL.
The Tallawahs have also scored the joint most fours in the first innings, smashing 22 on their way to 206 for 6 against the Patriots in a 2018 game. They share the record with Saint Lucia Kings (vs Patriots, 2021) and Trinbago Knight Riders (vs Patriots in 2024 and 2025).
Trinbago Knight Riders’ 223 for 6 against the Tallawahs in 2018 is the highest first-innings losing total by a team at home ground in the CPL.
Most 200-plus Totals in Losses and Season Records
The Tallawahs and Patriots have conceded two or more defeats after scoring 200-plus totals in the first innings.
Antigua Hawkbills (no longer play in the CPL) lost seven matches after batting first in 2014. This is the most first-innings defeats by a team in a CPL season. Notably, the Hawkbills lost seven games in a row.
CPL Playoff and Final Losing First Innings Totals
Guyana Amazon Warriors have recorded the highest first-innings total in a losing cause in the CPL playoffs. They couldn’t defend 178 for 9 against the Patriots in the second semi-final of the 2021 season.
Barbados Royals, meanwhile, hold the record in the CPL final. Their 161 for 7 wasn’t enough to beat the Tallawahs in the 2022 final.
