Key Insights – Leading Century-Scorers: WTC 2025-27

There’s a close battle between Shubman Gill, Joe Root, Tom Latham and Travis Head to steal the top spot.

Gill, meanwhile, became the first batter to score five centuries in the WTC 2025-27 cycle.

Notably, Gill brought up five hundreds in 2025 itself, the most by a batter in Tests that year.

Four of Gill’s centuries came against England on the 2025 tour, the joint second-most by a batter in a bilateral Test series. This was just the fourth instance of an Indian batter scoring four centuries in a bilateral Test series.

Gill also became just the third captain to smash four hundreds in a bilateral Test series.

Gill has also brought up the highest individual score in the WTC 2025-27 cycle. He aggregated 269 off 387 balls against England in the first innings of the 2025 Birmingham Test. This is the highest score by an Indian captain in a Test innings.

Justin Greaves (West Indies), Devon Conway (New Zealand) and Aamir Jangoo (West Indies) are the other double centurions in the WTC 2025-27.

With his second hundred of this cycle, Joe Root became the first batter to score 20 centuries in WTC history. (Check out Root’s Test centuries here.)

Root also became the first batter to score five or more centuries each in three consecutive WTC cycles. He had eight tons in 2021-23, seven in 2023-25, while five and counting in the current cycle.

Najmul Hossain Shanto became the first batter to score a century in the WTC 2025-27 cycle.

Shanto, Gill, Rishabh Pant, Conway, Latham and Sonal Dinusha (Sri Lanka) have scored two centuries in the same Test match in the WTC 2025-27 cycle.
