Frank Woolley has taken the most catches as a fielder in first-class cricket. He picked up 1018 catches in 979 matches. Notably, he is the only fielder with 1000-plus catches in FC cricket.

Over 44 fielders have taken 500 or more catches in their FC careers.

Robert Carpenter from England has the highest catches-per-match ratio in FC cricket, averaging 1.79 catches. He took 185 catches in 103 matches.


Wicketkeeping Dismissals and Records in FC Cricket

Robert Taylor, meanwhile, has bagged the most catches as a wicketkeeper in FC cricket. He took 1473 catches behind the wicket in 639 matches.

Taylor has also made the most dismissals as a wicketkeeper in FC cricket. He made 1649 dismissals as a keeper.


Innings and Match Fielding Achievements in FC Cricket

Micky Stewart (Surrey), Alistair Brown (Gloucestershire) and Rikki Clarke (Warwickshire) (all from England) hold the joint record for the most catches by a fielder in an FC innings. Each of them took seven catches against Northamptonshire (1957), Nottinghamshire (1966) and Lancashire (2011), respectively.

England’s Marcus Trescothick took five or more catches each in five innings, the most by a fielder in FC cricket.

Wally Hammond holds the record for the most catches as a fielder in an FC match. He grabbed 10 catches for Gloucestershire against Surrey across two innings combined in Cheltenham in the 1928 County Championship match.

Peter Walker from England picked up seven or more catches each in three matches, the most by a fielder in FC cricket.


Test Cricket Elite Fielders

Joe Root, Steven Smith, Rahul Dravid, Mahela Jayawardene and Jacques Kallis are the five fielders with 200 or more catches each in Test cricket.
