First-Class Career Run Aggregates and Century Records

Jack Hobbs has scored the most runs in first-class history. He aggregated 61760 runs in 834 matches (1325 innings) for England and Surrey.

Hobbs has also smashed the most centuries and the most fifty-plus scores in first-class cricket, with 199 hundreds and 472 fifty-plus scores to his name.

Hobbs scored 144 of those centuries for Surrey, the most by a batter for a team in first-class cricket.

Sunil Gavaskar has scored the most first-class runs among Indian batters, with 25834 runs to his name.

Individual Innings and Elite Scoring Feats in First-Class Cricket

Glen Chapple and Mark Pettini hold the joint record for the fastest century in first-class cricket, off 27 balls each. Chapple did so for Lancashire against Glamorgan in 1993 while Pettini imitated the feat for Essex against Leicestershire in 2003.

Don Bradman, meanwhile, has scored the most double centuries in red-ball cricket. He converted 37 of his 117 centuries into double tons.

Brian Lara has brought up the highest individual score in first-class cricket. He scored an unbeaten 501 from 427 balls for Warwickshire against Durham in the 1994 County Championship.

Lara even holds the record for the highest individual score in Tests. He scored an unbeaten 400 from 582 balls against England in the first innings of the 2004 St John’s Test.

Lara and William Ponsford are the only two batters with two quadruple centuries (400+) in first-class cricket.

Exceptional Batting Averages in First-Class Cricket

Bradman has the highest batting average in first-class cricket (minimum 2000 runs). He averaged 95.14 while scoring 28067 runs in 338 innings (234 matches).

Bradman also averages the highest in Test cricket, having collected 6996 runs at 99.94 in 80 innings for Australia.
