Gill started 2023 with a flurry of centuries, scoring three within ten days in January, including his career-best score.
He hammered 208 from 149 balls against New Zealand in the 2023 Hyderabad ODI. This is also the highest individual score for India against New Zealand in ODIs, going past Sachin Tendulkar’s 186* scored in the same city in 1999.
This knock made Gill only the fifth Indian batter to score a double century in ODIs.
Gill’s 208 included nine sixes, the most by an Indian batter against New Zealand in an ODI innings. His 19 fours are the joint second-most for India against the Kiwis in an innings.

Gill became just the fourth Indian captain to score an ODI century against the West Indies. He aggregated 110 off 108 balls in the 2026 Trivandrum ODI.
