Rinku’s Debut Year and Record-Breaking 2023 Milestones in T20Is
Rinku made his T20I debut in 2023, but he did not get a chance to bat against Ireland in Dublin.
It was in the next match, though, Rinku flexed his finishing skills. He smashed 38 off 21 balls, helping India put up 185 for 5 in the first innings against Ireland. He later won the Player of the Match award.
Rinku’s maiden T20I fifty came against South Africa. He hammered an unbeaten 68 from 39 balls in the 2023 Gqeberha T20I.
Rinku finished 2023 with 262 runs in eight outings. His strike rate of 180.68 was the highest by an Indian batter that year (minimum 100 balls faced). This was also the second-highest strike rate by a full-member batter in 2023.
Rinku’s 262 runs were the fourth-most by a full-member batter at No. 5 or below in T20Is in 2023.
His average of 65.50 was the highest by a full-member batter and overall the third-highest by any batter in T20Is in 2023 (minimum five innings batted).
Rinku’s Mixed Fortunes in 2024 in T20Is
2024 was a hit-and-miss year for Rinku. He managed to cross 20 in just three innings, with two of them being fifties.
One of his fifties, an unbeaten 69 off 39 balls in Bengaluru, is the highest individual score by an Indian batter at No. 5 against Afghanistan in T20Is.
He managed to score 245 runs at a strike rate of 151.23 in 14 innings in 2024.
Rinku’s Recent Slump and 2026 T20 World Cup Struggles
The opportunities almost dried up in 2025, getting just 43 runs across three outings, with a best score of 30 off 26 balls against England in the 2025 Pune T20I.
He made a comeback in early 2026, with an unbeaten 44 off 20 balls against New Zealand in the Nagpur T20I.
But Rinku was largely a disappointment in the 2026 T20 World Cup that followed. He managed a mere 24 runs across five outings before getting dropped from the XI.
