Nervous nineties… the term itself tells everything about what a batter feels while batting through the 90s. 

It’s a phase where you are almost close to scoring a century. One missed hit and you miss out on the triple-digit figures.

Some batters have suffered this plight quite a few times in T20Is. So here’s a look at the batters with the most scores in the 90s in T20Is.

Key Insights on Batters with Most 90s Scores in T20Is

90s Score on T20I Debut

Ricky Ponting was the first batter with a score in the 90s in T20Is. He remained unbeaten on 98 off 55 balls against New Zealand in the first-ever T20I match in Auckland in 2005.

Czech Republic’s Sabawoon Davizi is the only other batter with a 90s score on T20I debut. He scored 91 off 65 balls against Malta in 2019.

11 batters have scored 99 in a T20I innings. Four of them, Alex Hales (England), Hamid Shah (Denmark), Abdul Waheed (Saudi Arabia) and Scott Edwards (Netherlands), were dismissed on 99 once.


Most 90s as Captain, Wicketkeeper and Opener in T20Is

Dhiren Gondaria (Kenya), Ramesh Satheesan (Romania) and Hamid Shah (Denmark) are the three captains with two or more 90s each in T20Is.

Devon Conway (New Zealand), Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan) and Lorcan Tucker (Ireland) have two or more 90s each as wicketkeepers in T20Is.

All of Karanbir Singh’s 90s scores have come while opening for Austria. This is the most 90s scores by an opener in T20Is.


Most 90s by Series, Year and Opponent in T20Is

Karanbir and Gondaria have scored the joint most 90s in a calendar year in T20Is, with three knocks each in 2025 and 2026.

Karanbir smashed two of his three 90s in the 2025 home series against Belgium. This is the most 90s scores by a batter in a bilateral T20I series.

Conway (vs Australia), Rizwan (vs New Zealand) and Karanbir (vs Belgium and Romania) are the three batters with two or more scores in the 90s each against an opponent in T20Is.

Conway and Rizwan remained unbeaten in the 90s three times, the joint most by a batter in T20Is.
