Test cricket is slightly lenient when it comes to ‘Extras’. While a few extras conceded don’t hurt a bowling side, giving away too many can be a headache. A few teams have experienced that.

Team Performance Records and Away Test Totals
India have conceded the most extras in a Test innings. They gave away 76 extras against Pakistan in the second innings of the 2007 Bengaluru Test. The 76 extras included 35 byes, 26 leg byes and 15 no balls.
England’s 74 extras against the West Indies in the 2009 Post of Spain Test are the most given by a team in away Test innings.
The West Indies have conceded the most extras in a Test match. They gave away 103 extras (35 & 68) across both innings combined against Pakistan in the 1977 Bridgetown Test.
The 1977 Bridgetown Test also recorded the most extras by both teams in a single match. Pakistan contributed 70 extras to take the match tally to 173.
Most Byes and Leg Byes Conceded in a Test Innings
Zimbabwe have the record the most byes conceded in a Test innings, with 42 given against Ireland in the second innings of the 2024 Belfast Test.
England have conceded the most leg byes in a Test innings, with 35 recorded against South Africa in the second innings of the 2008 Birmingham Test.
Most Wides and No-Balls in a Test Innings
The West Indies, England and New Zealand hold the record for the most wides conceded in a single Test innings. Their bowlers conceded 21 wides each against Australia (Bridgetown, 2008), New Zealand (Mount Maunganui, 2019) and the West Indies (Mount Maunganui, 2025). New Zealand are the only team to give away 20 or more wides in two Test innings, with the other instance coming against Australia in the third innings of the 2024 Wellington Test.
The West Indies have recorded the most no balls in a Test innings. They gave away 40 no balls, that too twice, against England (St John’s, 1986) and Australia (Adelaide, 1989), respectively.
