Historic 1000-Plus Run Milestones and Fifty-Plus Knocks in T20Is
Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan became the first batter to score 1000-plus runs in a calendar year in T20Is. He aggregated 1326 runs at a strike rate of 134.89 in 26 innings in 2021.
Rizwan also became the first batter to bring up 10 fifty-plus scores in a calendar year in T20Is, doing so in 2021 with one hundred and 12 fifties.
Rizwan is the only batter with 10 or more fifty-plus scores in two calendar years in T20Is. He scored 10 in 2022. The same year, he fell short of another 1000-plus year by four runs!
Austria’s Karanbir Singh, meanwhile, has smashed the most fifty-plus scores in a year in T20Is, with 15 knocks in 2025.
Record Run Aggregates in a Year in T20Is
Karanbir has also scored the most runs in a calendar year in T20Is. He accumulated 1488 runs at a strike rate of 174.85 in 32 innings in 2025. This is also the most T20I runs by an opener in a year.
Karanbir and Bilal Zalmai became the first opening pair to score 1000-plus runs each in a calendar year in T20Is. Zalmai scored 1008 runs at a strike rate of 155.07 in 35 innings while opening with Karanbir for Austria in 2025.
Bahrain’s Fiaz Ahmed and Prashant Kurup are the other pair to score 1000-plus each in the same year for a team in T20Is.
Elite Batting Average and Strike Rate in a Year in T20Is
Suryakumar Yadav’s strike rate of 187.43 in 2022 is the highest by any batter in a calendar year in T20Is (minimum 500 balls faced).
Rizwan’s batting average of 73.66 in 2021 is the highest by a batter in a calendar year in T20Is (minimum 20 innings batted).
Rizwan aggregated 1195 of his 1326 runs in 2021 as Pakistan’s designated wicketkeeper. This is the most runs by a wicketkeeper-batter in a calendar year in T20Is.
Suryakumar scored 1029 of his 1164 runs at No. 3 or below in 2022. This is the most runs by a non-opener in a calendar year in T20Is.
Sustained Consistency Across Multiple Years in T20Is
Pakistan’s Babar Azam (563 in 2018, 939 in 2021, 735 in 2022 & 738 in 2024), Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza (735 in 2022, 515 in 2023, 573 in 2024 & 536 in 2025) and UAE’s Muhammad Waseem (596 in 2022, 863 in 2023, 909 in 2024 & 669 in 2025) are the three batters to score 500-plus runs in four or more calendar years in T20Is.
