Gill is also the quickest to 2000 runs, taking 38 innings to better Amla’s (40) record.
Gill is the only batter to complete 2500 runs while averaging above 50 and striking above 100.
In 1984, Viv Richards became the first-ever batter to accumulate 2500 runs in ODI cricket. He reached the landmark in 56 innings.
Only 13 batters have managed to score 2500 runs in their first 60 ODI innings. Apart from the above 10 batters, Gary Kirsten, Shikhar Dhawan, and Fakhar Zaman reached the landmark in their 60th innings.
Time-Based Records for 2500 ODI Runs
Shai Hope took 58 innings to score 2500 ODI runs, though he is the fastest in terms of time taken. The West Indies batter reached the milestone in two years and 231 days after his debut.
On the flip side, Calum MacLeod took the longest time. The Scottish player slogged in 79 innings for 13 years and 329 days to muster 2500 career ODI runs.
Youngest and Oldest Batters to Reach 2500 ODI Runs
Kohli, who needed 64 innings, completed 2500 runs at the age of 22 years and 350 days, making him the youngest batter to reach the mark.
Pakistan’s Zaheer Abbas, meanwhile, is the oldest batter to score 2500 ODI runs. He reached the mark at the age of 38 years and 92 days.
