Sri Lanka’s Performance Against Asian Opponents
Sri Lanka lost the home series against India by 0-1 in August 2026. This was their fifth consecutive series defeat against India since 2015. Sri Lanka last won a bilateral Test series against India in 2008.
In June 2025, Sri Lanka kept their dominance against Bangladesh intact. They beat Bangladesh 1-0 to win their 12th bilateral series between them. Sri Lanka haven’t lost any series against Bangladesh.
Sri Lanka’s Tough Caribbean and Australian Series
In July 2026, Sri Lanka conceded their first series defeat against the West Indies since 2003. They went down 0-1 on the two-match Caribbean tour.
The Lankans also suffered their largest Test loss by an innings against the West Indies. They lost the first Test in Antigua by an innings and 217 runs.
Early in 2025, Australia handed Sri Lanka a 2-0 whitewash. This was the second series sweep conceded by Sri Lanka against Australia since 2019. The last time Sri Lanka beat the Aussies in a series was back in 2016.
Sri Lanka lost the first Test against Australia by an innings and 242 runs. This is their biggest Test defeat by an innings against Australia.
Sri Lanka’s Challenging South African and English Encounters
The Lankans have also suffered two consecutive series sweeps against South Africa since 2021.
In their most recent series in 2024, Sri Lanka faced their second-largest and fifth-largest Test defeats by runs against South Africa. They lost the first Test in Durban by 233 runs, followed by a 109-run loss in Gqeberha.
In August 2024, Sri Lanka lost their fourth consecutive Test series against England since 2016. While Sri Lanka avoided a whitewash, they suffered their second-biggest Test defeat by runs against England in the Lord’s Test, losing it by 190 runs.
Historic Success Against New Zealand
In September 2024, Sri Lanka clean-swept New Zealand by 2-0 at home. This was their first Test series win against the Kiwis since August 2009.
Sri Lanka also recorded their largest win by an innings against New Zealand in Tests. They won the second Test in Galle by an innings and 154 runs.
