Starc’s Milestone Test Spells and Fast Bowling Records
Starc had to wait for almost a year to take his maiden Test five-for from his debut.
He bagged a six-wicket haul, although it turned out to be an expensive one of his career. He conceded 154 runs for six wickets against South Africa in the third innings of the 2012 Perth Test.
Starc’s 6 for 154 is the third-most expensive six-wicket haul by an Australian pacer in Tests.
The left-hander bagged his first overseas five-for in Cardiff, England. He took 5 for 114 against the hosts in the first innings of the 2015 Ashes Test.
Starc has recorded the fastest-ever five-wicket haul by balls in Tests. He took just 15 balls to complete his five wickets against the West Indies in the fourth innings of the 2025 Kingston Test.
Starc eventually finished with 6 for 9 runs in 7.3 wickets. This is the best bowling figures by a bowler in his 100th Test match.
Starc’s Record-Breaking Performances Against Sri Lanka
The 2016 Galle Test saw him take two five-wicket hauls in the same match. He first picked up 5 for 44 and returned with 6 for 50 in the second innings against Sri Lanka.
Those two five-fors also gave Starc his best Test match haul of 11 for 94. This is also the best match haul by an Australian bowler in Sri Lanka in Tests.
Starc took 5 for 63 in the very next Test at Colombo (SSC). These are the only three five-fors he has so far taken in Asia.
Starc recorded his second instance of two five-fors in the same Test in Canberra in 2019. And this one also came against Sri Lanka, having returned with 5 for 54 and 5 for 46.

Starc’s Pink-Ball Dominance and Historic Australian Bowling Feats
5 for 88 against England in the 2017 Adelaide Test was his first five-for with the pink ball.
As of now, Starc is the only bowler with more than five five-fors in pink ball Tests.
Starc’s total five-wicket hauls are the most by a left-arm bowler for Australia in Tests. This is also the third-most five-fors by an Australian pacer in Tests.
The left-hander has taken three five-wicket hauls at the Adelaide Oval, the joint second-most by a bowler at this venue in Tests. Notably, all these spells have come in day/night Tests.
Starc has taken the second-most five-wicket hauls for Australia at home in Tests.
